FAV FLICKS :

WHY WE THE MALDIVES:

We often joke that we kind of went to Tulum. In reality, we didn’t go at all (by accident) 🤣. This is a trip fully planned by hubby. Our idea was a three day, four night getaway that wasn’t on the other side of the world. Our friends would rave about their bohemian experience in Tulum so we figured we give it a shot. Hubby actually booked a hotel in Cancun (the neighborhood of Puerto Juárez), which is about a 40 minute drive from Tulum. We chuckle about this to this day but still really enjoyed our adults-only resort and still still able to taxi to the ❤️ of Tulum, Tulum Pueblo. There, is where you’ll find the bustle of a city center with restaurants and shops.

The one thing that is not in question – this is an incredible place for some R&R.  If laying by the pool all day and lounging around with no to-do list sounds like what you need, this is the place to be. You can still find endless nightlife in Cancun and some in Tulum as well. We did a day trip to the heart of Tulum and really enjoyed the taquerias, shopping, beaches and the vibe of the city.

OUR FAVRITE THINGS TO DO:

Poolside Chilling 🏊
Tulum Taquerias 🌮
Dress up Dinners
Tulum Pueblo Shopping
Resort Photoshoot
Exploring huge resort
Tulum Hat Shopping (pleasant surprise)
Snapping Polaroids
Balcony View in Room

A Candid Cost Calculation:

Accommodation – We stayed at the all-inclusive TRS Yucatán Hotel. This is a large resort that has a massive pool, pool fitness classes, golf carts to chauffeur you around the resort and a personal butler, available via WhatsApp. I liked the hotel but if I could do it all again, I”d stay in a Tulum proper.

Food – Since hubby loves Tacos, he is always in Heaven in Mexico. The resort is an all-inclusive, which makes decisions easy but my favorite meals are always off-resort, smaller restaurants.

Transportation – After landing in Malé, the capital of the Maldives, following our layover in Dubai, we enjoyed a 30-minute roundtrip speedboat transfer that was included with our accommodation.

Best of the Best – Taking a day trip to explore Tulum Pueblo was our favorite day. The bohemian style mixed with Mexican tradition comes alive here. We loved the dining alfresco, eating delicious tacos and of course, shopping!

PRO TIPS :

1
Have It Your Way You can truly do most trips to Mexico however you want - friends trip, baecation or solocation. Do not feel like it must be only one way. Maybe once you go with friends then the next time a quick friends getaway.
2
Where You Stay Makes the Difference Like the first Pro Tip, where you stay makes all the difference for different trips. Cancun is great of partying or you want do all the things. Tulum is a little more grown and chill but still can be fun. Check the vibe of each town before you book.
3
Eat Local If you stay at an all-inclusive, make sure you get off the resort at least once to try local food. You won't be disappointed. Tulum Pueblo is the best place to go to try some local cuisine.
4
Always Leave an Extra Space in Your Bag I had no idea I'd love to the hats in Tulum so I stacked them and wore both on the plane 🤣. The hubby also bought a few articles of clothing so make sure you leave a bit of extra space in your bag, especially if you don't check a bag.
